Mary Ellen Davis passed away peacefully on Thursday September 9, 2021. She was born in New York City, the daughter of Andrew and Agnes (Duggan) O’Neil and grew up in Maplewood New Jersey.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband Douglas Davis, her son Matthew Davis as well as her sisters Eileen McCullion and Margaret Ell of Toms River, and Maureen O'Neil of San Francisco.
Mary Ellen graduated from Archbishop Walsh High School in Irvington N.J. She enjoyed a long career in the service industry, where she met many people who would become life-long friends. Later in life she pursued further education in the field of Medical Billing and Coding and became a medical assistant. Mary Ellen ultimately retired as a Librarian, for the Springfield Public Library, a position her mother Agnes also held in the Newark school system.
In 1974, Mary Ellen married Douglas Davis at the Orange Lawn and Tennis Club in South Orange N.J. They then moved to Tucson, Arizona for the early stages of their marriage before returning to New Jersey to begin the next chapter of their lives as parents. Mary Ellen gave birth to Matthew Davis in 1981. Her faith, balanced with her ability to have fun, made her an amazing mother.
Mary Ellen cared passionately about her friends and family. She loved her nieces and nephews and their children. She held her friends high regard and would recount tales of their escapades from years past as though they just occurred. A close second to her love of family and friends was her love of animals. She owned many animals throughout her life and kept keep “treats” in her purse in case she ran into "new friends." In the morning she fed the birds and warded off the squirrels until the birds got their share and then also feed the squirrels after.
