Born in Brooklyn, New York, Paul moved to Oakhurst, New Jersey, at the age of 10. He was a proud graduate of Monmouth College, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree of Science in Education. While at Monmouth, Paul co-founded the fraternity Theta Epsilon Chi, which has since grown to become a national organization.
Soon after college, Paul married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Pezzella, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. They were blessed with three wonderful sons — Paul Jr., Christopher, and Marc.
Paul began his teaching career at Middletown High School, where he taught general business courses. He was later recruited by the Long Branch Board of Education, serving first as Assistant Board Secretary and later as Board Secretary/Business Administrator. Paul went on to join the Hazlet Board of Education, where he served as Board Secretary/Business Administrator and Assistant Superintendent until his retirement. After retiring, Paul continued to share his expertise as a consultant for the New Jersey State Board of Education, assisting struggling school districts across the state.
Paul was also a proud member of the Hazlet Rotary Club, where he lived out Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.” He participated in many charitable events and helped organize several fundraising golf tournaments. For his dedication and community service, he was honored with the Paul Harris Award by the Rotary Foundation.
Outside of his professional and civic commitments, Paul was an avid golfer who loved playing with his sons and friends. He was also a devoted — and die-hard — New York Yankees fan. Paul enjoyed bowling and ran the Wednesday night league at Renaissance, the community where he and Cheryl resided.
Above all, Paul loved life and his family more than anything. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Frank J. Sparta and Annette (Movizzo) Sparta, as well as his beloved son, Paul F. Sparta, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Cheryl (Pezzella); his sons Christopher (Patricia Montgomery) and Marc (Karma Brandwine); his cherished granddaughter Kelli Sparta; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Paul will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family and community. His legacy of kindness and service will live on in all who knew and loved him.
