

Mr. Lawless was born at St. Michael's Hospital, Newark, New Jersey on April 11, 1936 to the late James Patrick and Anna Madden Lawless.
Mr. Lawless proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. and was a survivor of the Ribbon Creek training incident, Paris Island, South Carolina in April 1956.
This incident led to reforms in Marine Corps training techniques that persist today.
After completing his military service, Mr. Lawless began a career with the Pennsylvania Railroad, ultimately retiring from New Jersey Transit Rail Operations in 1999.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lawless is survived by his children, Susan Ann, Richard Edward and Christopher James and their spouses, Kassie, Ron and Nina.
He is also survived by his brothers and their spouses, James and Marie Lawless, Jack and Nancy Lawless and Bob and Pat Lawless as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Horizon Funeral Home, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, New Jersey 08755, (732) 276-1740.
Mr. Lawless will be interred at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, North Hanover, New Jersey, (609) 758-7250.
A service will be held at the Chapel on site at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 and interment immediately thereafter.
