I first met Steve at Pergamon Press when we were both about 18. I was working for his father the same summer he showed up in Long Island City. We became great allies, imagining beyond our reality--two kids living in grown-up clothes in the chaos of the grown-up world of business (where neither of us belonged). We met again at an art walk two years ago and brought each other up to date, each sharing our own story, this time, of being in the AIDS epidemic. Still, I shall always smile to see him in my mind's eye, at 18, and to recall his kind friendship, so gentle, a true poet's nature in a harsh environment. Bon voyage, my old friend. Dina Wilcox, NYC

To the family and friends of Steve Crohn:
Steve was a loyal alumnus and friend of the Silver School of Social Work.  He attended the 50th anniversary of the School in 2010, and helped advise us on the preservation of the Edward Hopper Studio, which is located in the School.  He was planning to loan his personal collection of 1965 civil rights photographs to the School for a special exhibition.  It was my pleasure to get to know Steve as an NYU Silver School alumnus and to visit him in his studio and home in Saugerties, New York.  He was generous in spirit, a creative and active artist, and an insightful social worker.  Many of us at the NYU Silver School will miss Steve very much.  Our deepest condolences are sent to Steve's family and friends.

Deepest sympathies to Steve's family. I was one of his professors at NYU and have such fond memories of him stopping by my office to chat. He was a delightful person to know and I am so sorry we have lost him.

I will miss my friend Steve, a kind and beautiful spirit.

On this anniversary of your birth, you are very much in my thoughts and in my heart. I am hugging Harry, your cat, in your honor. There is a huge hole in my life, where once there was Steve. Missing our cocktail hours together, your wit,  warm and caring friendship, lively personality and so much more.

Steve and I have shared a healing journey together for many years - starting at The Omega Institute in NYC, healing circles at my apartment, and a deep friendship that developed over many years. His passion as an artist and human being was contagious! It was such a joy to have him come north and live in Saugerties where he made such amazing contributions to the community.

I'm still having a hard time realizing that we'll never have a rousing hug and laugh about the adventures that life holds. Steve was always so brave about taking on life's challenges with great gusto!

My heart goes out to the family of Steve and his extended family who love and will miss him.  Though I have not seen him since we graduated high school in 1964,  I have been following his life on Facebook, and have spoken with him in that venue.  I always thought there was time to get up to see his gallery and his work, and I'm sorry now that I have not done so. He was a wonderful man with great talent, a wonderful sense of humor, and very loved by his family and friends. My heart goes out to all of you that will be missing him.

Steve grew up with my children in Dumont and was always a wonderful surrogate "son" when my own children were far away.We cherished his humor,his kindness,his warmth and his talent. Dear Carla,
I mourn the loss of a lifelong friend who played an important role in my growing up. The happy times spent in your mother's home in Dumont, and later
