Susan Dana Halsey, born in Patterson New Jersey, passed away on July 5 2025 at Community Medical Center after a long illness.
A graduate of Toms River High School, Sue received her BA in geology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst; An MA in Geology from Duke University and her PhD in Geology and earth science from the University of Delaware. She was inducted into the Toms River Hall of Fame in 1992.
Sue was the New Jersey Coastal Geologist for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection until her retirement from that position. She served as Director of Extension for the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium and was the founder and owner of Admiral Coastal Consulting.
Sue was a long time, active member of Zonta International, serving as international governor and president of local chapters. A life long member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, she served as reader and Bible Study leader. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and a past president of the Order of the Evergreen Alumni Association.
She is predeceased by her parents, Barbara Lewis Halsey and Robert Halsey. She leaves behind her sisters and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held at 2:00 Sunday, September 7 at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River. Donations in her memory can be sent to the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
