Vincent J. McBrearty (Vinny), 78, of Toms River passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 5, 2021 with Adrienne, his loving wife of 57 years, by his side. He was born in New York City and grew up in Queens and Staten Island, NY. He raised his family in Middletown, New Jersey and moved to Toms River in 2005 after retiring from the transportation industry, in which he worked for many years.
Vinny was known for putting people and their needs ahead of his own and was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether needed or just because he wanted to. After retirement, his giving spirit extended into the community where he gave countless hours to the People’s Pantry in Toms River that opened after Superstorm Sandy in 2012 in response to the needs of the community. This became his new full-time “job” as he was restless and could never sit still for long.
Vinny treasured the time he spent with his family and friends and loved to engage in conversation and was always interested in what you were doing. He treasured his summer vacations for many years with his family in Stone Harbor and Avalon New Jersey. Vinny loved to have family barbeques, especially when family and friends came to his house in Middletown. He enjoyed many pool parties, grilling clams and drinking adult beverages. He loved being “Poppy” to his grandchildren and could always be found on the sidelines or in the audience to support them in all they did. He loved a good laugh and liked to dish out jokes but also didn’t mind being the “butt” when the joke turned on him. There were always good times to be had when family and friends came to see Vinny and Adrienne. He was known in his younger days for his practical jokes and could always make you laugh. He loved his chimichangas and good Mexican food, especially at Casa Comida in Oceanport, NJ. He loved going on cruises with his wife, playing cards, bowling and bike riding, but in the end, Vinny most loved spending time with his family.
Vinny was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Audrey McBrearty, his sister Eileen Sansevero and his brother-in-law Jimmy Guiseppone. Surviving are his beloved wife Adrienne (Klugewicz), three children Daniel, Michael and Andrea McBrearty-Raimann and husband Christopher; two cherished grandchildren Colin and Madelyn; four grand dogs and two grand cats; his sister Kathleen McBrearty, brother Charles McBrearty and wife Nancy and his brother-in-law Joseph Sansevero.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Maximilian Church, 130 St. Maximilian Lane, Toms River. Cremation was private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org) or the charity of your choice.
