It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of Andrea Renne Boothby-Gysling, beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, and treasured friend to all that she knew. She passed away on the afternoon of October 28, 2026 in Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, after a quick yet hard-fought battle with cancer.
Andrea was born in Oakville, Ontario, on June 3, 1971 to parents Anita Schardt and Michael Boothby, and was the younger sibling to sister Michele Saran (nee Boothby). In 2002 Andrea would marry Philipp Gysling, and over time would give birth to sons Tristan Gysling in 2004, and Gabriel Gysling in 2007.
Andrea was an extremely warm, incredibly personable individual, as can be seen by her large circle of friends. She was the glue that bonded people, whether they were family or friends. In the few years leading up to her death, she dedicated her time to working for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, determined to make a difference and do what she felt was right. She was a gifted communicator which led to her career success as a writer and all-around creative. Travel was deeply important to her, and she spent much of her free time exploring the world, taking her family with her to experience all the new sights and cultures. As a mother and wife, she could not possibly have done any better. She would provide support in any form as it was needed, always remaining the backbone of the family and making sure everything was upheld as it should be in the house.
Whenever anyone close to Andrea needed a shoulder to cry on or just an ear to listen, they would always go to her. She would devote all the time that they needed, providing care and sound advice. Her passing at such an incredibly young age makes it all the more painful, and everyone who knew her will no doubt find that her presence will be deeply, deeply missed in their lives.
Given the speed of her diagnosis and subsequent passing, we encourage friends and family to share their sympathies and stories in the tribute section of this page. Memories shared of any kind are deeply appreciated.
A visitation will be held at Jerrett Funeral Homes (1141 St Clair Ave W, Toronto) at four to seven P.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, and a Catholic mass in her name will take place the day after at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica (65 Bond St, Toronto) at ten A.M..
