Ann Madeline Emmett

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Emmett, who passed away peacefully in Toronto on August 18th, 2026, at the age of 95. Ann was born in Toronto on September 12, 1930 and remained connected to the city she called home throughout her life.

Ann was the beloved daughter of Helen Martin and John Emmett. She was predeceased by her siblings Thomas Emmett, Ernest Martin, Inez Hedrik, and Lynn Murphy. She is survived by her beloved siblings Margaret Allen, Janice Thompson, and Wayne Martin, who will carry her memory forward with love.

Ann was a retired high school English teacher who devoted her career to education and to the young people whose lives she touched. Her love of language, learning, and community remained an important part of who she was.

Ann was fortunate to have many wonderful and enduring friendships throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by her close friends Cher Richards, Margaret and Mario Rao, Rita Reichart, Heather Rappaport, John Saunders, and Sean Sloan.

A particularly special place in Ann's heart was held by Iona Greenham. Their relationship grew into something much deeper than friendship, becoming more like that of a mother and daughter. In Ann's remaining years, Iona was a devoted advocate for her, offering steadfast support, companionship, and care. Their special bond was a cherished gift in Ann's life.

Ann was also predeceased by dear friends Elizabeth Mackay Davies and Patricia Hill, whose friendships were an important part of her life.

Ann will also be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, and her great- nieces and great- nephews, who were an important part of her extended family and will cherish the memories they shared with her.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Christie Gardens.The music, sense of community, outstanding meals, kindness, and loving care brought comfort and joy to Ann and to those who loved her. We are deeply grateful for the warmth and dignity with which they cared for her.

Ann will be remembered for her love of people, her dedication as a teacher, her friendships, and many lives she touched throughout her long and meaningful life. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, connection, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Rest peacefully, Ann. You will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
