Ann Clare O’Leary on December 10, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born in Waterford, Ireland, Ann trained as a nurse in England, making her way to Boston, where she joined her sister at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear hospital. In Boston, she met her future
husband, Donal, and together they moved to Canada, where they
planted roots, started their family and formed lifelong friendships.
As a lover of travel and a bit of an adventurer, her suitcase was
always at the ready and she took great joy both in exploring
new destinations and returning to places such as Dublin, Ireland
and of late, St. Andrew’s, New Brunswick, that were close to her heart.
Ann was elegant, gracious, generous, funny, humble and full of gratitude. Dedicating over 35 years volunteering at Michael Garron Hospital, she was community focused, caring and formed many special friendships during her time there– volunteering brought her so much joy.
Ann dearly loved her family, which extended across the ocean to
Susan (Ritchie) and Conor (Nicola) Brennan. Ann touched the hearts of so many with her lovely smile, twinkling blue eyes, gentleness and generosity of spirit. She will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Dermot and Amelia Mackey (Donohue), and sister, Mary Padgham; and is survived by her husband, Donal; daughters, Deirdre (Tom) and Una (Mark); grandchildren, Niamh (Ryan), Clare (Mark), Keiran and Aidan; and great-grandchildren, Oaklee and Hunter. The family expresses their
gratitude to the palliative doctors and caregivers, for the warmth
and kindness provided to her during her time at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital.
A service will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bonaventure’s Parish, located at 1300 Leslie Street, Don
Mills, ON, M3C 2K9. A reception will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, kindly send a donation in Ann’s name to either
Michael Garron Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
