Audrey Litwin-Malloch

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bruce Malloch, daughters Allyson Malloch (Erik Mieras) and Arlynn Malloch, sisters Nadine Litwin and Frances Litwin, and brother John Litwin. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret Litwin, sister Mary Boratto, niece Maija Boratto and sister-in-law Maryann Litwin. Audrey was sister-in-law to Doug Malloch (Nadia), Rob Malloch (Sue) and Jim Malloch (Sandra). She was a loving godmother to Bryan Malloch (Krysta Frederick) and aunt to Madison Boratto, Madelaine Litwin, Carl Litwin, Shannon Malloch (Tyler Skillen), Carolyn Mallory (Mike), Andrew Malloch (Nikki Waller), Mark Malloch (Mary), Laura Malloch (Matt Bekar), Meagan Malloch and Jessica Malloch (Hiren Patel).

Audrey was born in Hamilton, Ont., and grew up in Dundas, Ont. She attended Parkside High School and McMaster University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in English literature. She also studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. After completing her studies at McMaster, she travelled in Europe and then moved to Toronto where she worked for several years at Bell Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Housing. She met Bruce in 1986 and married him in 1988. Shortly after that, with Bruce’s support, Audrey quit her job and enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Information Studies at the University of Toronto, where she attained a master’s degree in information studies. From then on, she worked in library and information specialist positions for the rest of her career. After a pause to stay home with Allyson and Arlynn in their early years, Audrey joined the Toronto Catholic School Board as an elementary school librarian. She greatly enjoyed helping children discover books and learn to love reading, and devoted many hours to organizing book fairs and cataloguing the library collections at her schools.

Audrey loved reading science fiction, fantasy fiction and mysteries on her e-reader. She was a huge fan of Star Trek, Annie Lennox, ABBA, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Oakley and The Shopping Channel. She loved summer vacations at Turkey Point Beach. She loved cooking holubchi at Christmas, making pancakes on Sunday mornings, and trying new air fryer recipes. She had a special place in her heart for cats. Despite her health challenges, she always kept a cheerful outlook and met people with kind words and a warm smile. We will miss her deeply and remember her with great fondness.

A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held on Saturday, August 22 at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 1141 St. Clair Ave. W. in Toronto. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. A reception will follow at the funeral home. We wish to thank the many nurses, doctors, specialists and staff of the University Health Network for the care and support they provided Audrey during her final months.
