Brian David McConnell

Brian was predeceased by his parents, William (Bill) McConnell and Eila (nee Aineskorppi) and survived by his sister, Brenda McConnell Gladstone, and brother-in-law, Joel Gladstone, and nieces, Hannah Gladstone (Matthew Simko) and Kate Gladstone (James Curtis), and by great-nephew Henry and great-niece Ada.

Growing up mostly in Scarborough, he loved spending time outdoors, often with his beloved dog, Shane, and hanging out with all his friends from West Hill Collegiate, playing hockey on a backyard rink or fishing with his best friend Joe S., or enjoying a backyard evening with lifelong friends Wayne and Pat N.

A dedicated and loyal worker, he spent many years at Beaver Lumber and then finished his working life with over 20 years as a driver at Canadian Linen. He loved chit-chatting with his customers, and at Christmas the dogs along his route received special treats, including our own beloved family dog, Oscar.

Brian was passionate about golf and hockey throughout his life (particularly the Leafs and Team Canada’s Juniors) and would take the time to tell you how great they were any time you saw him—he insisted upon it! He was a devoted fan of motor sports and visited Mosport every July with some members of his family who enjoyed Brian’s love of the sport. He brought the food and tradition demanded they sit on his favourite corner along the track to watch the races every year.

Brian could always tell you where the best local pizza places were wherever he visited (always championing the “independents”) and how much he loved pizza over any other food, although chicken was permitted . . . on occasion. He enjoyed visiting the St. Lawrence Market, inspecting the butchers and cheese shops and taking home his favoured German pretzels. And, of course, stopping for a slice or peameal bacon on a bun. It was the only time Brian tolerated driving in the city.

We will miss his unique presence in our lives and remember him for his passions firmly held.
