Never a dull moment...
Bryan loved life, he was a pure soul who rarely complained ,and often commented on the beauty and wonder of the world around us, people and nature . Bryan was openly spiritual: a modern day Christian who believed in Jesus and always had a cross or two or three around him.
Many of us probably met Bryan in the 1980's when he was cutting hair in Yorkville . Bryan was an excellent cutter, stylist, and colourist, and began his career as a hairdresser in London Ontario, his home town. He went on to work in Montreal, Florida & Toronto.
When he cut hair he had a natural, god given talent. He had an easy going style and would ask the customer what she wanted, listen and then suggest a few ideas ,,, Listen ,,and then proceed to create a simple, fresh and beautiful hairstyle . From tricks and tips learned in the early days, to formalities adopted latter, Bryan blended all styles together in his approach to hair to produce that great look that kept his loyal customers coming back year after year.
He worked for Peter Allen's, House of Lords, Jason Kearns, La Coupe, Vidal Sassoon and Intrigue. Bryan had many regular clients who admired his style and approach. In 1999 Bryan won the Swartzkoff Canadian Hairdresser of the Year Award In Toronto . In 2001 Bryan won the Pert Shampoo Award at the Sutton Place Hotel Toronto. One close friend described Bryan as having "PURE" Talent. It came easy to him, he didn't have to struggle to become good, he had a natural gift.
He was a good artist , a natural painter. A little known fact ,when Bryan came to Toronto he worked at Color Your World as a paint mixer , blending and creating new colors perfectly, with little effort, fast and efficiently. He was an exceptionally neat House Painter, Like a Professional Painter, painting amazing straight lines , doing ceilings doors etc rarely ever spilling a drop.
Bryan also loved to create his own unique space. Wherever he lived he would remove all clutter, get some great furniture, and paint. One year all white, another time all black, and one time he went Mediterranean, white and blue. He always tried to make a space cheery, bright, different, clean and special. Bryan was special.
Life was not always easy for Bryan, yet he rarely complained and often helped out others when he could. Bryan often donated his time to cutting hair for others in shelters and hospices. Bryan had a big heart, an outgoing personality, and will be remembered by many .
Often if you were with Bryan people who knew him would come over to say hi! People who didn't know him would come up to ask him if he was a Rock Star or in a band. One Greek Friend used to refer to Bryan as the "Handsome One", as his memory will live on .
Donations can be made in memory of Bryan Preefer to United Church Or The Salvation Army, Toronto.
