A life of love
After a life lived with grace and joy our cherished mother Deanne Marie Emerson nee Colangelo slipped away to rejoin her beloved husband Peter Emerson, sister Colomba, and parents Rosaria and Anthony in the late afternoon of May 1, 2026 with her eldest daughter Toni by her side.
Deanne was born in Toronto on November 22,1936. Her first years were spent living above her father’s shoe shop Hollywood shoes on Yonge Street. The family later moved to East York where she lived until Peter swept her off her feet at a St. Bridgets dance.
Deanne was passionate about tending to the well being of her family and friends and always feasted everyone who came by the house or cottage with unforgettable warmth and humour. She had a flair for fashion, and décor and could never drive past a flea market, antique store or garage sale. She sewed clothing for herself and her girls, and made beautiful handmade dolls, and painted birdhouses. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and nightly walks on the beach with her husband. Most of all she loved her grandchildren and never hesitated to put on a costume to make them smile.
Deanne leaves a legacy of love for her four children Toni Emerson, Tracy Thompson (Robert), Karen Emerson, Peter Emerson (Trisha), her brother Anthony and sister in law Mary Kathryn, her eight grandchildren Alex, Geri, Cameron, Isabella, Reid, Blaise, Sofie Louise, and Marshall, and her two great grandchildren Robert and Madison.
Deanne volunteered all her life, and her favourite charities were Cystic Fibrosis, Sick Kids Hospital, and Chalice.
We extend our gratitude to the staff at Bridgepoint Hospital for their dedicated care to mom over the past eight months.
Visitation will be held at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 660 Kennedy Road, Toronto, ON M1K 2B5, CA, on June 1, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location on June 1, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
