Our “Uncle Don” had a spirit in him like no other. Watching him play that bass drum during band practices or Christmas celebrations at the legion was truly a sight to see. He was so happy to be part of celebrations and performances. We are deeply saddened to lose Don. He will be missed by us all. As a member of the Derry Flute Band, I remember hearing lots of wonderful things about Don, and had the chance to meet him a few times. I remember how much of a gentle soul he was when I got to see him. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing and I extend my deepest condolences to his entire family.

Don volunteered his time with the Derry Flute Band as our bass drummer for practices (pre-COVID). He had a great sense of humour and brought smiles, jokes and laughter to our group.

He was kind, gentle and easy to chat with. Don was patient during practice while we stopped and started our pieces in order to get them just right. We would joke that he was "sleeping on the job" while he waited for us to start up again, he always had a funny comeback and a laugh.

We were lucky to have the chance to get to know him and spend time with him. He will be missed.

Don was a regular dart player at br10 Todmorden legion on Tuesday nights for many years until he could no longer play darts due to his lack of balance. Don continued to come out on Tuesday night darts as a cheerleader. Silvano and Sheila enjoyed Don's company at the legion. Don loved to talk to the members when he came out and enjoyed his wine and some food from the bar.
