

Died peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital, surrounded by her Loretto Sisters on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Sister was in her 101st year of her life and her 78th year as a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loretto Sisters). She was predeceased by her parents, George Dean and Catherine Chapman, her brothers Frank and William, and her sisters Roseanne Dean, and Bette Blackie. Sister Donata is survived by her sister, Catherine Teresa Terry, her nephew Paul Terry and her grandnieces Catherine Terry and Elizabeth Terry. Sister served in a variety of ministries, principally in teaching and as an educational consultant, in Toronto, Toronto Gore, Hamilton, Port Colborne, Brampton, and Stratford, Ontario, in Vancouver, BC, and in Estevan, SK. One of her contributions to education was in co-creating the “Mr. Mugs” reading series for the primary grades. In 1986 she moved to Guelph and served in ministry to the poor at the “Drop In Centre” and “Yorkhaven” until April 2015, when she moved to Loretto Infirmary. In November 2018 Donata moved to Presentation Manor. She loved to sing and was also an accomplished artist. Many thanks to the nurses and PSWs who cared for Sister as well as friends Caroline and Gord. Sister will be missed by family, friends, and her sisters in the community. Cremation has taken place as per Sr. Donata’s wishes. Friends may call at Presentation Manor, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 10 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery.
