

Died at Rene Goupil Jesuit Infirmary, Pickering, Ontario on Sunday, April 8, 2012. He was in his 97th year of life and his 76th year of religious life. Fred was born in Kings County, New Brunswick on July 5, 1915, the son of Jeremiah and Margaret Mahoney. He entered the Jesuit Novitiate, Guelph, Ontario on September 6, 1936, and was ordained a priest in 1949. It was in 1953 that he began his long association with Regis College in Toronto, lecturing in theology. As the author of many excellent theological books and articles, Fr. Crowe was universally recognized as a serious theologian and appreciated professor. He was President of Regis College from 1969-1971. All during his Jesuit life, he devoted much time and energy to disseminate the writings of the well-known Canadian Jesuit theologian, Fr. Bernard Lonergan. In 1985 he became director of the new Lonergan Centre, later renamed the Lonergan Research Institute, established at Regis College. Fr. Crowe will be missed by his relatives, his fellow Jesuits, and numerous colleagues throughout the world.
