George Ean McGregor, 72, a resident of York Region with deep roots in Cabbagetown, Toronto, passed away on October 2, 2026, following a battle with cancer. George was the son of George McGregor Sr. and Dorothy McGregor (née Fountain), brother of Dorothea “Dorrie" McGregor, and father of Erin Janet McGregor and James David “Jock” McGregor. Grandfather to Andrew James, Cierra Teri, Kennedy and Olivia. He shared his final years with his beloved friend, Sue McCourt, whom he loved deeply. Diane Reid, the mother of his children, remained his friend until her passing.
Proud to be a product of Old Cabbagetown, George carried the spirit of his neighbourhood throughout his life. He was fiercely loyal to his lifelong friends, whose names are too numerous to list but whose place in his heart was enduring.
A musician and writer, George took pride in his creative abilities and the power of words and music to express what mattered to him. His social conscience was equally central to who he was. He advocated for the rights and dignity of people living in poverty, believing that those too often overlooked deserved to be heard.
George will be remembered with love for his creativity, convictions, loyalty, and unmistakable pride in where he came from. His memory lives on in his family, his many friendships, and the stories and poems he leaves behind.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Giffen-Mack and Trull Funeral Home, 2570 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4C 1L3. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather to remember George and honour his life.
