Gilles Raymond Ouellet

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Ouellet. He left this world to join his mother Paulette (deceased 2006) in the early morning hours of Wednesday June 27, 2018 at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. He leaves behind his father Clement, brother Paul (Dan), sister Lise (Robin), niece Chantale (Joe) and nephew Jonathan.

He spent the last year fighting cancer with a positive attitude, always believing that he would win. It was not until his last days that he realized that the battle was over and accepted his fate. A private ceremony for the family will take place at a later date for the interment of the ashes in Hull, QC.

A very non-traditional Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 8th at Rosar-Morrison Funeral home at 467 Sherbourne St. in Toronto, 12:00pm-3:00pm.

“LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH” is the theme Raymond wanted for his Celebration of Life.

In keeping with his request, everyone is encouraged to wear bright colours.

While a few tears will be shed, Raymond wanted us to gather and share the memories of good times amongst friends and family.

C’est avec tristesse que vous informons du décès de monsieur Raymond Ouellet. Il a quitté notre monde pour rejoindre sa mère Paulette (décédée en 2006) dans les petites heures du matin du mercredi 27 Juin 2018 à l’hôpital St Michael’s à Toronto. Il laisse dans le deuil son père Clément, son frère Paul(Dan), sa sœur Lise (Robin), sa nièce Chantale (Joe) et son neveu Jonathan.

Il a passé la dernière année à combattre le cancer avec une attitude positive, en croyant toujours qu’il le vaincrait. C’est seulement au cours de ses derniers jours qu’il a réalisé que le combat était fini et qu’il acceptait son destin.

MESSAGE FROM THE FAMILY

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at St Michaels' Hospital for the compassionate care they provided Raymond over the past year. The Medical Daycare Unit and the Cancer Ward on the 2nd floor have the most amazing, hard-working and caring group of people. Despite the throngs of patients they deal with on a daily basis, they always manage to make a connection with each person.

Throughout Raymond's numerous lengthy stays at the hospital, he got to know them and appreciated them as individuals. It gave us comfort during his rapid decline, that the sound of their voices would bring a smile to his face.

We would like to thank you for all the kind words of encouragement and support from everyone we came into contact with during this very difficult time for our family and his friends.

Raymond had made some notes which we recently found indicating that in lieu of flowers, he would prefer that a donation be made in his name. His suggestions were: Toronto People with Aids Foundation (PWA), Aids Committee of Toronto (ACT), St Michael's Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
