Nonna Giovanna, as she will be fondly remembered, will now be reunited together again with her beloved husband, Mario.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons, Giancarlo and wife Nadia, Mauro and wife Julie and by her granddaughters, Arianna, Katia, Bianca and Alexa. She will also be missed by her sisters and brothers, Dino (predeceased), Tarcisio, Elisa, Yolanda (predeceased), Silvana, and her many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Giovanna was born on December 1, 1937 in Vidulis, Udine, Italy. She married her soulmate, Mario, in 1959. They began their life together in Venezuela and soon after immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1963.
As the centre point of her family, Giovanna's zest for life was infused into every experience - from cooking amazing meals for family and friends, tending to her gorgeous flowers and lush vegetable garden, enjoying good red wine and travelling to new places. Among all the amazing places she visited, her and Mario always had an affinity for Friuli, Italy.
Her sons adored her and will be forever grateful for a mother who always supported and took a serious interest in the sports they played. She would even be their goalkeeper when they practiced soccer and hockey in the backyard.
Giovanna loved spending time with her granddaughters. They each shared a special bond with their grandmother as she was an important influence in their lives, the best example of living life to the fullest.
We will forever cherish the beautiful memories we shared with her and will be forever grateful for the warm, kind, generous and always lively mother and grandmother she was.
Rest in Peace Nonna, we love you.
If desired, the family has requested donations in memory of Giovanna Ongaro be made to Diabetes Canada.
