It is with great sadness that we share with you the loss of our beloved Grammie Gwen, who quietly and serenely left us on Sunday October 11, 2026 while in her 101st year. Her family was by her side when she calmly went to meet her husband Emerson and her daughter Wendy.
Gwen was a beloved and dedicated wife to her wonderful husband Emerson for 51 years, as he predeceased her in 1996. She was a caring mother to Grant (Carol), Wendy(D), (John) and to Paula (Chris). Her children were her life and she adored watching them grow, spending time with them and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many great memories will be cherished of Gwen with her grandchildren Brent(D) (Samantha), Matthew (Lindsay) and Jennafer. Great Grammie Gwen was always smiling when enjoying time with her great grandchildren Emilia and Mateo.
Gwen was born in the west end of Toronto into a caring family with mom Dorothy and father Jacob , and was the youngest of 3 children. When she met Emerson and married in 1945, she was smitten for life as the two of them raised their 3 children in the Beaches of Toronto and loved to travel and see the world.
In her later years, Gwen loved to spend time and travel with her cousins . She also enjoyed the bus trips to casinos.
As a grandmother to Brent, Matthew and Jenna, the grandchildren loved her nurturing spirit and endless warmth. She was such a kind, loving person and seemed to always have a smile for them when they met and spent time together. Grammie Gwen always had a song to sing and was not afraid to belt it out. She was always quick with a little joke and always kept everyone laughing. Even in the last weeks of her life, she had the nurses laughing. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always looked forward to seeing her and spending time.
We are so grateful for all the beautiful memories and for the blessing of her long life with us. We will forever miss her and hold her close to us, cherishing memories of her warm and gentle love. She was always good for a laugh with her quick wit and happy nature.
The family would like to acknowledge and truly thank the tremendous support and daily care that Gwen received in her later years from personal caregiver Marla and PSW Nadia. Also, Paula would like to especially thank the staff of Michael Garron Hospital, Dr. Rosenberg and the nurses of Tower 8 West for how they treated mom in her final days. Your care was priceless to this family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would graciously appreciate any donations to be made to Michael Garron Hospital and Heart & Stroke Foundation Canada in Gwen's name.
