It is with deep regret we announce the passing of retired Air Canada Captain Howard Malone. Howie passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of August 14, 2026.
Howie was larger than life and never missed an opportunity to celebrate it. Howie earned his wings through the Canadian military’s ROTP initiative while studying Engineering at the University of Toronto. Howie graduated with a bachelor of science in engineering and then moved on to advanced flying school training on the T-33’s at Portage la Prairie ,MB. He began his flying career as a flight instructor at Centralia, Ontario teaching on the DeHavilland Chipmunk. In 1964 He left the RCAF and enrolled in the Masters program of Town & Regional Planning, again at the U of T.
Post graduation Howie, along with two partners created their own regional planning firm, Malone-Given-Parsons. Shortly thereafter, in 1966, Howie got hired at Air Canada as a second officer on the DC8. Howie was a pilot for Air Canada for 34 years and retired in 2000 as a 747-400 Captain. He had the pleasure of flying several aircraft along the way but always loved the Queen of the Skies the most. His travels took him the world over with deployments in Singapore and the Middle East. Although flying was his career (and his hobby with his Lake Amphibian), his family (wife Patricia partners for 63 years- and daughter Kelly) and their Muskoka cottage were his passions.
Howie was born and raised in Toronto and made the city his home for life. He will be remembered and celebrated at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel at 467 Sherbourne Street
