Irene is also survived by her brother Richard Whitney (Alice), whom she was very close with and thought fondly of. Irene led a life of love and hardships. Having lost a son, David at the age of 5 and her first husband and love Earl in her early years, Irene had to endure heart wrenching, unspeakable loss. She was a lady of resilience and pushed forward to continue being a loving mother to her eldest child, Earl and daughter Darlene. Irene would later meet her second love, Bob Hollaman at her place of work, Peak Freans. However, she would have to endure loss yet again, with the passing of her second husband Bob, in December of 2011.
Irene had a very large and loving family, most of which she rests with now. Her mother and father Annie and Reg Whitney and siblings: Jack, Reg, Ross, Ken, Violet, Don and Richard.
Irene throughout her life enjoyed traveling. She traveled across eastern Canada, the U.S. and to tropical destinations which included cruises. Irene often traveled to Niagara on the lake with her second husband Bob, where they would vacation and attend live theatre performances. They also loved to attend Stage West Theatre performances and held season tickets. Irene had a passion to keep herself active. Walking was her favourite pastime and she would often walk for hours in her neighbourhood. She also enjoyed both bowling and lawn bowling. Whenever she had a chance she loved to play the slots. Irene made many friends along the way. Irene will surely be missed.
