It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Maynard (nee Park), 82, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada on December 5, 2023. She is survived by her former spouse Edward Maynard, her daughter Sue Lawley-Maynard (Krista), her son Ken Maynard, her grandchildren Adam Maynard, Madylan Mooney, and Aidin Mooney (Madison), and the many in-laws of her large extended family.
Born in Listowel as their only child, Joan is pre-deceased by her loving parents, Adam Park and Frances Park (nee Small).
Joan resided for most of her adult life in Creemore and the surrounding area. She loved music and played the piano, she was an avid reader and she enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Among the many "hats" she wore throughout her lifetime, Joan was a Kindergarten teacher, a Brownie troop Brown Owl, a store proprietor, a newspaper columnist, a writer, and an occasional floral assistant. Considered a sister to some and a second mother to many, Joan will be forever loved and missed by her countless friends and family. Her delight in being a mother was surpassed only by her joy and pride at becoming a grandmother, while her sense of humour and desire to converse and connect with others remained throughout her life.
Our family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Extendicare Guildwood for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation in Joan’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Services will be announced at a later date.
