Joan Audrey Richburg, a beloved mother, partner & friend, passed away on July 22nd, 2024 in the same Toronto hospital she was born in, on May 23rd, 1932 to loving predeceased parents who instilled in her a strong work ethic and a love for family & supporting her community.
Joan is survived by Wally Schmidt, whom she shared many years of love and companionship with, sons Shawn and Steve, plus many extended family members whose lives were forever enriched by knowing such a compassionate woman. She had a long-dedicated career at Bell Canada as a bill collector, where she was honored by for collecting over $1,000,000 in unpaid bills. Her dedication and hard work were an inspiration to all who knew her. Throughout her life, Joan touched the lives of everyone she met with her compassion and kindness for others, especially her Church Committee & various cherished local Community Charity groups which she supported throughout her life.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Joan found great joy in spending time at the family lakeside cottage that her father built. It was there that she created countless memories with loved ones and developed a passion for adopting stray cats. Joan loved to explore Canada and do so several times via bus & train. These journeys allowed her to experience the beauty of our country first hand while creating lasting memories along the way. Though we mourn the loss of such an incredible soul today, we find solace in knowing that Joan's spirit will live on through each person whose life she touched. Rest peacefully my dear friend - you will always hold a special place within our hearts.
Visitation will take place at Giffen Mack & Trull Funeral Home on August 1st from 10:00 am-12:00 pm followed by a service from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm where friends and family can come together to celebrate Joan's remarkable life.
Moms love song
Mother Joan
Sleep well you have nothing to atone
I know my mother
There is no other
Joan is hard to define
She is deeper and more robust than aged wine
One sibling of four
Her life has been tour
Her oldest son always on move
Adventure is his grove
Her youngest always staying near
His mother was his dear
Omg my mother this lady is 92
She was rebellious her life is to celebrate with much ado
In 1951 she met a man and loved a man of dark skin
My mother usually enjoys going against the wind
I remember her wanting a life mate
One day she met Wally and there was no reason to hesitate
Although he was 6 inches shorter
Yet he loved her and carried her around like a porter
I apologize for long winded Rhyme
But my mommy has no more time
I had a daughter Emily
I hope my daughter will meet at the gates
Emily passed away
Hope mom gets to sit within and stay
Blessed be
Until we meet again
