Born in Gaspé, Quebec to Odile and Napoleon Thibault.
Poppy carried with him the values of hard work, resilience, and kindness throughout his life. As a young man, he worked in the lumber camps of Temagami, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life.
He later made his way to Scarborough, where he became known in the community as the local “iceman,” delivering ice to homes with a smile that people came to depend on. It was there that he met the love of his life, Joan, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering support.
Poppy was a proud and devoted family man — a loving father and a cherished grandfather whose love for his family knew no bounds. His presence brought warmth, comfort, and joy to those around him, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren.
Loving Father to Sylvia (Brian), John Robert (Linda), and Cindy (Mitch). Adored Poppy to Hayley (Matthew), Amy-Lea (Jamie), Meghan (Taylor) and Sarah (Nick). Great-Grand Poppy to Emma and James (Hayley), Iris and Warren (Amy), Easton and Trent (Meghan) and Kennedy and Reid (Sarah). Treasured sibling to Donat (Lily), Vince (Rose), Yvon (Judy), Henri (Marg), Rita (George), Rolande (Ernest), Raymonde (Ernest Jean), Gilberte (Herbert), Yvette (Fortunat)
Pre-deceased by his parents Odile and Napoleon Thibault.
He had a passion for life’s simple pleasures: cheering on the Montreal Canadiens, listening to old country music, playing cards, and dancing in the kitchen with his family. Above all, he was known for his ever-present smile and amazingly perfect hair — a reflection of the kindness and positivity he shared so freely.
Poppy will be remembered as a man who found joy in everyday moments, who loved deeply, and who left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
