It is with much sadness we announce the sudden passing of Joseph P. Weir, Age 83, on April 27, 2026. “Joe”, was a kind and easy-going Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Loving Husband and Stepfather, Grandfather and Great Grandfather and Friend. He will be deeply missed by many.
Joe was pre-deceased by his wife, Iona, his Grandson, Arran, and Stepdaughters, Deb and Lynda, his sisters, Marie and Joan, and his brothers, Val, John and Paul. He is survived by his Stepson, Gordon, Son-in-law, Terry, his nieces and nephews, Peter, Mike, Jeff, Mark, Marla, Shannon, Chris, Matt and Christine, his Grandchildren, Gessica and Marco, Ceilidh and Joel, and Great Grandchildren, Meike and Thea, Billie-Violet and Locke. All his Grandchildren were very fond of him.
Joe was described as a Big Teddy Bear. He made friends easily. He was good natured and easy going and had a unique way of shedding positive vibes around every situation.
As a young man, Joe worked at Continental Can for several years and changed careers to the TTC once he married his Sweetheart, Iona in 1978. For 27 years, he made friends across the city and developed his legacy as a dependable and reliable Streetcar Operator on the Queen and College Lines. After retiring, Joe enjoyed a leisurely life, lovingly caring for his ailing wife, watching all the Blue Jay games and holding audience with new-found friends at his favourite MacDonald’s.
In recent years, Joe established a daily routine of solving the world’s problems with his friends at the “Remarkable Bean” coffee house in the “Beaches” on Queen Street, (come rain or shine, sleet or snow), where they would hold audience with most of the passers’ by, young and old alike. It was Joe’s stage and he loved being there with his friends. His greatest pleasure was installing laughter in every situation. He was always Jolly and ready with a quick quip and a gentle nudge. He leaves a big void that is impossible to fill.
May he rest in peace.
