May 09, 1958 ─ July 05, 2016
Juliet Veronica Edwards, Toronto, Canada, passed away Tuesday morning, July 5, 2016, at the Princess Margaret Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia. She was 58 years young.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, May 9, 1958, at 07:45 hours, Juliet weighed in at a healthy eight pounds to Clarice Ward and Ivan Vernon.
She spent the early years at Faith Home in St. Andrews. The Home cared for young girls and established an environment where the young Juliet learned of God’s power and mercy. Also, at Faith Home, she earned the friendship of many (of the girls), some of which continued throughout her life. In December 1974, after a short stay at the home of cousins in Kingston, she moved to Toronto, Canada,
Juliet attended Humber High School. After graduating, she applied to and was accepted in George Brown’s Electronics Technician program.
Unsure of finding her place in the world of electronics, she put her studies on hold to seek opportunities offering more promising rewards and accepted financing positions at several car dealerships in the city. In 1980, she took a job as a Finance Manager with City Buick, where she served for more than 17 years. A hard worker and a go-getter personality, she became known as City’s million-dollar lady. During these years, she nurtured many friendships and travelled often.
The 2008 worldwide financial downturn afforded Juliet the opportunity to fulfil one of her lifelong dreams. She returned to school and in May 2013 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) in Criminology and Justice from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
Diagnosed with leukemia in 2013, she did not surrender to fear; instead, she placed her life in the hands of God and took the time to replenish her soul by vacationing in her well-loved island, Jamaica.
For three years, Juliet fought to regain her health. In so doing, she showed us courage, hope and the preciousness of life.
On Sunday, July 03, sensing the end at hand, Juliet told her husband of her wish to be taken to her Scarborough home. On Monday, July 04, she repeated this request to him. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Juliet passed away.
Surviving Juliet is her mother (Clarice), husband (Ervin) and two sons (Hadrian and Michael). Also, she counted several brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends and acquaintances each of whom played very different roles in her life.
The visitation will be from 17:00 hours until 20:00 hours on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 2570 Danforth Ave., Toronto.
The memorial service will follow at 11:00 hours on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Malvern Christian Assembly, 6705 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto.
Everyone who remembers Juliet is asked to celebrate her life in their way; raising a glass of their favourite drink in her memory would be entirely appropriate.
Instead of flowers, Juliet would hope you will donate to a favourite charity including the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation: http://thepmcf.ca/Home
