She was born in Vancouver, BC on May 3, 1927. Daughter of Mon (Hasegawa) and Toyosaku Usami, and predeceased by brother James Noboru Usami. She was also known as Kay to friends and neighbours. After moving to Ontario with her family, she met and married Masaru (Mas) Tomotsugu, who predeceased her in 1988. They were a loving couple who especially enjoyed traveling.
Kyoko is survived by Alan, Christine (Leo Regimbal), Marilyn (Shawn Jacobs), David, and Irene. She was known very affectionately as “Bachan” to her grandchildren Jonathan Regimbal (Andrea) and Dianne Regimbal (Scott Grundy) and great-grandchildren Juliet, Nicholas and Addilynn.
A gentle, caring and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Kyoko was the heart and soul of her family. We will all miss her joyful spirit and sense of humour.
She spent her early years in Vancouver until she and her parents were relocated to a camp in Slocan, BC during the war years. After moving to Ontario, she eventually settled in Scarborough with her husband and children, where she lived contentedly until her passing.
A private service was held on November 5, 2025 to celebrate Kyoko’s life. Those wishing to honour her memory may do so through donations to Scarborough General Hospital.
