I'm deeply saddened to hear of Lauris's death. 

May God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain. He was an extraordinary man and he will be truly missed. We will never forget his big smile and kindness.

How could anyone forget Lauris after you met and got to know him?
We had some great times at camp Sauline while growing up and I was lucky enough to work with him down at the SkyDome site.   He always had a smile and and after hearing his mischevious giggle you knew you had to watch out for an unexpected prank.  He will live on eternally in the hearts of family and friends. It is with great sadness,  I found out this morning that Lauris Kuksis had passed away. I knew Lauris at NORR briefly  - between projects he would always stop by the print room for a hello.  From there it went to some great conversations - hockey, football !
He'll be missed - my condolences to the Kuksis family and his friends !

I knew Lauris from one wonderful winter coaching midget hockey together at Warren Park. Lauris brought a number of boys over from Humber Valley and essentially merged 2 teams of strangers into one team of friends. I guess you could say he worked hard enough at it to make it look effortless. He was a good coach, a good person, and was liked and well respected by everyone associated with the team.  He was taken from us far too young and I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to his family. To Markus in particular, all I can say is "keep your head up", your family needs you to stay strong and help them to get through this difficult time. Best wishes to all, Steve Brett

I heard this morning with great sadness the passing of my childhood friend, Lauris.  We had many fond memories spending our summers together at Saulaine.  You will be greatly missed by your many friends.  May you rest in peace.

Lauris was my dear colleague at NORR. He was one of the nicest, most genuine people you could imagine. He was very proud of his family. He was kind, dedicated and always professional and a true gentlemen.
I am shocked to hear the news of his passing. My deepest sympathies to Lauris's family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to Lauris' family. Lauris and I worked together many years ago at NORR. We would run into each from time to time over the years. Each time it was like we had only seen each other the day before. He was so funny and brightened everyone's day. He will be missed.

I was sad when I read Alia's email that Lauris had passed away. Many wonderful memories from our university days are playing through my mind. The late, late studio nights, the after project submission movie (The Three Stooges - a fav), beer and pizza nights, the wicked slapshot. He was a friend and colleague and I will miss his big grin and hearty laugh. My condolences to you, Maria, Markus and Alia.

My heartfelt condolences to my brother-in-law Davis for the loss of his brother and to the Kuksis family for the loss of their son, nephew, husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin. Lauris was a truly great guy with a wonderful smile. He was the funniest man I ever met. His passing leaves a big hole in  everyone who knew him. My sympathies.

My heart is broken. The world last lost a wonderful, kind man. Lauris was always a favorite on mine. Whether it was playing golf, hockey, shooting pool or just talking sports together, he was a pleasure to be around. I always looked forward to my time around him, he made me feel happy.

Lauris was one of a kind!  We will remember him always, and will picture him with that great goofy grin of his.  He was always positve and happy, and had a wonderful, mischievous, sense of humour.  Bob and I graduated from Architecture school with Lauris 30 years ago this year and despite having seen him only intermittently since then, we still counted him as a close friend.  I know he had hoped to attend our 30th anniversary class reunion in April, and it will be hard to go without him.  We were happy to have had the chance to reconnect with Lauris this past year.  In our conversations and correspondence, he continued to show that positive outlook, even in the face of difficult circumstances.  We will miss him.
Lauris was a good man and immensely proud of his family.  Our condolences to you, Maira, Markus, and Alia.

Lauris was a childhood friend who married my closest friend and cousin, Maira. I remember the many Bruce Springsteen, The Who and Rolling Stones concerts that Lauris, Maira and I attended together with other friends. We enjoyed fun weekends with groups of friends at Saulaine, friends' cottages, went camping in Algonquin Park, and ran into Wayne Gretzky and some other NHL hockey players at a Montreal hotel pool. We shared many laughs, silly stories and great adventures. In his adult life, Lauris was a talented architect. He was a devoted husband to Maira and a wonderful father to Markus and Alija. He was their rock. Alberts, Eriks and I will cherish our dear memories of Lauris. We will never forget the bright light that he shined on the world.

Words cannot express the pain I feel for the passing of Lauris. It was a pleasure knowing Lauris and being in the same class with him at U of Manitoba.  Despite the short time that we spent together, I always knew Lauris to be a good sport and a perfect gentlemen. It also brings back difficult memories for me as I lost my father-in-law last January. Lauris was a friend first and a dedicated co-worker in our time at Giffels Design/Build. He gave his all in his professional career. It was a pleasure to share life, libations and laughter with Lauris. Much too soon! I will miss him greatly.

Lauris was the kind of man, men aspire to be. Lauris was a man of tremendous kindness. He was and will forever remain someone our family cherished. Shocked and devastated.  Our bond was through Church and children who continue close friends.  He was a true gentleman with a generous way and a sweet disposition.

It's never easy saying goodbye to someone, especially when they leave way too soon.  It's been my pleasure to have known Lauris for the last 25 years through his participation in the Detroit Latvian Golf Association tournament every year in May. I am shocked to hear the news of his passing. In our early years at NORR we were teamed to complete the SkyDome Hotel in a very challenging work environment. He was a dedicated, knowledgeable architect and ideal team player. We shared the same sense of humour and outlook on life. In 2010 in a chance meeting at a golf tournament he suggested some opportunities at NORR, which played a significant part in my decision to leave Zeidler and relocate to Kingston.
