Born October 10, 1929 in Coffee Gully, St. Joseph, Barbados, West Indies, Lionel McClean passed away peacefully and comfortably on February 2, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario Canada at the age of 95 years. Lionel will be joining his wife, Sylvia, and other family and friends who have sadly passed on and will be dearly missed by his daughters, Yolanda McClean (Lloyd Hutchinson) and Melinda McClean (Paul Smith), and sons, Arleigh Holder (Cindi Holder) and Dion McClean. Lionel was grandfather (“grandpa”) to Tanisha, Darian, Juwaan, Juvai, Brandon, Denver and Reece and will be missed by Jamila, Ashante and Chantea. Lionel was also great grandfather to Kyla, Isabella, Ciara, Celina and Avery and will be missed by Damaine and Shelisa Smith and their children, Zhyanna, Elijah, Harmony and Nehemiah.
Lionel was a man of principle and instilled in his children the importance of integrity, respect and treating others as you ought to be treated.
Lionel enjoyed fixing and tinkering with electronics a skill he learned over the years while working at Admiral and Inglis Home Appliances. He developed a love and talent for music from his early adult years when he played in the police band in Barbados. He enjoyed going on long drives up North, being in cottage country and going on picnics with family and friends. He found joy in watching sports, particularly, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays, doing crossword puzzles and playing dominoes with his friends.
Although Lionel lived with Alzheimer’s for a number of years, we are certain he sensed our presence and felt the love from those around him. His smile brightened-up the room.
Those who had the benefit of knowing or experiencing Lionel have a story, memory or laugh that touched their lives in a warm and meaningful way. Lionel will be forever remembered and missed by all of his family and friends.
We find comfort in knowing that Lionel is finally at peace and resting with his wife in their Heavenly Home.
