MURRAY, Lorne Bruce Lorne passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday, November 22, 2009 of complications arising from old age. Following the loss earlier this year of Ruth, his dear wife and companion of 63 years, he carried on valiantly on his own, challenging the traffic on Yonge Street and tending to his banking and other chores. For the past few months, he was ably cared for by the staff from Sprint and most recently by the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital.Lorne was born on February 6, 1913 in North Battleford, Sask. to Walter and Sadie Murray and grew up in Weston, Ontario with his brothers (Walter and Leo, both deceased) and baby sister Betty. He is survived by his two sons, Brian (Dolores) and Paul (Nora) and by his three grandchildren, Erin (Michael) Chaiton-Murray, Graeme and Richard, and by the newest member of the family, his first great granddaughter, Ada Ruth. After a near fatal plane crash while training to be a pilot during the Second World War, Lorne spent 2 years recovering at the old Christie Street Hospital and eventually moved to Alymer, Ontario, where he worked in the trucking industry for several years. In 1949, he and Ruth moved to Toronto where he worked at the Hospital for Sick Children until he was 72, retiring as the Chief Administrator. In retirement, Lorne and Ruth lived a quiet life focused mainly on family and home.At Lorne’s request, cremation has already taken place. Family and friends may call at the Trull “North Toronto” Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 2704 Yonge St. (5 blocks south of Lawrence) on Thursday, November 26, from 7 – 9 pm. A memorial service will be held the following day, on Friday, November 27, in the chapel at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospital for Sick Children or a charity of your choice.
