

Mr Luis Eduardo Nunes was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Luis will be remembered as an outstanding individual.
Luis was born on September 11, 1948 at Sao Miguel in Acores, Portugal. He was the son of Eugenia and Manuel. Luis grew up in Sao Miguel.
Luis was raised with 10 siblings. He had 5 sisters: Margurite, Gabriella, Natalia, Zita, Alda, and Emilia and four brothers: Manuel, Verissimo, Joao, and Jose Antonio. Luis was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Luis had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Luis was an active child who took part in soccer and swimming in the ocean. In his spare time he liked to go fishing in the Calhau. However, to Luis, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Luis enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were all his friends who were in Angola with him. Later in life, he became friends with the Portugues community at Dundas & Ossington in Toronto.
On February 1, 1972 Luis exchanged wedding vows with Maria da Conceicao Freitas at Village Church of Sao Miguel, Acores. Empathic and loyal, Luis was committed to making his new family happy.
Luis worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Luis was blessed with three children, two son's, John and Ricky, one daughter Paula and his son-in-law Rino. Another blessing for Luis was the gift of 2 grandchildren, Daniel and Dante.
Fortunately, Luis enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Luis worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was carpentry. He was employed for over 40 years as a master carpenter. Luis always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Luis was an Army Veteran in Angola. Luis saw action for two years in the Angolan War. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Luis found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included soccer. Luis was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. He was a die hard fan of Benfica Soccer Team.
Luis enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included Sao Miguel and Greece.
Luis was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was A German Shepherd dog named Scrappy. They were best friends for 12 years. His family was rounded out by his dogs, cats, and sometimes rabbits!
Luis passed away on February 23, 2009 at St Joseph's Health Center, Toronto. Luis fought a long and hard battle against cancer. He is survived by wife, children, son-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, godchildren, and several nephew's and nieces. Services were held at St. Clare Church. Luis was laid to rest in Prospect Cemetary in Toronto, Ont.
Simply stated, Luis was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Luis leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Mr Luis Eduardo Nunes.
