It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nonna, and Bisnonna, Maria Capone, who passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 86.
Born on December 5, 1939, in Dipignano, Calabria, Italy, She was a woman whose love knew no bounds, whose kitchen was always open, and whose heart had room for everyone.
Maria was lovingly known for her incredible cooking and baking. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, a place where family and friends gathered, where no one ever left hungry, and where love was expressed through every dish she prepared. Her recipes may be passed down, but the love she poured into them will be impossible to replicate.
Maria was also a true social butterfly, beloved by her community and neighbourhood. She could never travel from one destination to another without stopping to greet at least three people along the way. She had a remarkable gift for turning ordinary encounters into meaningful connections, and her presence brought life and warmth to every corner of her community.
Maria has now been reunited with her beloved husband, Amilcare; her cherished son, Marco, her second-born; and her beloved parents, Giovanni and Filomena, siblings; Teresa, Francesco, and Mario whom she missed dearly.
Devoted mother of Ferruccio, Connie (Donato), Diana (Amedeo), Marco (Anna), and Ada (late Paul).
She is the cherished Nonna of Valerie (Richard), Stefania (Carlos), Vince (Daniela), Amanda (Dave), Nadia, Alyssa, and Michael. Maria was also a proud and loving Bisnonna to her 12 beautiful great-grandchildren: Aliyah, Adriana, Gian Carlo, Luca, Cristian, Dante, Danny, Gabriel, Jacob, Emily, Leah, and Douglas. Each of them brought her immeasurable joy, and the love she shared with them will live on through the stories, traditions, and memories they carry forward.
She will be remembered for her generous heart, her unmistakable warmth, her love of conversation, her passion for cooking and baking, and her ability to make everyone feel like family. Her home, her table, and her friendship were gifts she shared freely, and her legacy of kindness and togetherness will continue for generations to come.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing that Maria is reunited with those she loved and lost. We will forever hear her voice in our conversations, feel her love in the meals we prepare, and remember her every time we stop to chat with a neighbour or welcome someone to our table.
Maria will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten by her family, extended family, friends, neighbours, and the community she touched so profoundly.
On the morning of the service, guests are kindly asked to proceed directly to the church and arrive 15 minutes prior to the service, allowing the family some private time together beforehand.
If desired, donations in memory of Maria Capone may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or The Stop, an organization dedicated to community food programs. These causes reflect Maria's generous spirit and her lifelong belief that everyone deserves a seat at the table and a meal to share.
May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she gave so freely throughout her life.
