Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Hugh and Gwen (née Lippert) McNenly. She will be deeply missed by her niece Sophia, nephew Hugh, sisters Kathy (Kevin) and Jennifer (Therese) and brothers Ben and Terry (Linda).
Mary will be cremated in Toronto, and then we will take her on one final road trip home to Espanola, Ontario. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on September 26 at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church in Webbwood. Following Mass, Mary will be laid to rest at Espanola Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her beloved father and mother. Family and friends are warmly invited to a celebration of Mary's life following the interment, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 370 Annette Street, Espanola.
Mary devoted her life to caring for others. She began her career as a figure skating coach, inspiring young skaters throughout Manitoulin Island and the surrounding communities. She later pursued nursing, first as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and then as a Registered Nurse (RN). She spent 22 years as a nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, working in the gynecology, emergency and cardiology departments. Her dedication, compassion and commitment to helping others touched countless lives, including her mother, whom she lovingly cared for during the final weeks of her life.
After many years in the demanding healthcare profession, Mary embraced a new chapter of life when she joined the bakery team at the Sobeys store near her Broadview Avenue home. What began as a change of pace became a deeply meaningful part of her life. She enjoyed the friendships she made, the daily routines and the opportunity to connect with customers and coworkers in her community. For the final decade of her working life, Mary found a sense of balance, contentment and belonging there. She was warmly regarded by her colleagues and remained a valued member of the Sobeys family until retiring last year.
Mary had celebrated her 64th birthday on July 27. Though her time with us was far too short, the memories she leaves behind will be treasured forever.
Gone too soon and forever in our hearts. We love you Mary. Rest in peace.
~ Your sisters and brothers, Kathy, Jennifer, Ben and Terry
