When I was in my thirties and forties I was so, so lucky to spend a big part of my leisure time with Mike. We had so many good times together. I must admit when I watched him interact with children I used to wish that I could be more like him. And there were so many more reasons for me to admire him. He was as kind and honest a man as I have ever met.
Mike came to Canada as a furniture upholsterer and worked his way up to be the plant manager. Quite the accomplishment!
    Mike was a lovely man and he enriched the lives of so many of the people who were fortunate enough to meet him.
Rest in peace Mike.

Although he was my brother-in-law for many years, I only met Mike a few times, but the one thing I remember most was the laughs. He was a genuinely funny and very kind man. My funniest memory was of Mike driving us to Eltham to see his family. We were driving down a road in London when he suddenly realised that he was driving on the wrong side of the road. 'Jesus Christ' he shouted, as we realised that the car we were aiming for was full of nuns! Oh how we laughed. It's been a long time since we met Mike, and it was nice to be reunited on Facebook, but for a very short time sadly. I will remember you with great fondness and a big smile. Rest in peace. Dad, tomorrow is your funeral.  You will have been gone for two weeks.  I still wake and think about whether or not I have time to get things done AND wash my hair before coming to see you.  Then I remember that you are gone and I want to stay in bed all day.  But I know that you would not want that.  You would want me to get up and live.  

Dad, I am so very grateful for all of the time we have spent together lately, talking, laughing, planning.  We didn't get to do our Rocky Mountaineer trip or the Orient Express.  Your fishing plans with Davy Jones at Bonnie Lake are not to be, the Blomidon visit won't happen but I have saved some of your ashes to sprinkle in these special places.  There will absolutely be a Michael Webb Memorial Golf Cart at Bonnie Lake, as promised.

My heart is aching and the tears won't stop.  Just when I think I'm okay, Nate says, "I miss Grandpa" at bedtime, and I'm raw again.  Zoe and I spent your last hours with you and share the same grief over watching you breathe your last breath.  I'm so very sorry I could not get you home, Dad.  I am so very, very sorry.  I promise to do everything that I can to honour you and your instructions to me at the hospital.  I will take better care of myself and I will spend more time with my kids.  I will laugh more, be silly more and be thankful for every day.  I will learn everyone's names;  the person serving me at a restaurant, the person sweeping the floor, the people living on my street, the friends of my children...everyone.  I remember meeting you at the House on Parliament for my birthday in November.  You arrived about fifteen minutes early.  When I arrived you, of course, introduced me to the waitress and told me that it was her birthday. You had made a new friend in fifteen minutes.  

Our last real conversation, only a few hours before you passed, was one I will never forget.  You were sitting up, very much in pain and having great difficulty breathing.  You had a cool cloth on your head because you were not able to cool down because of the lack of oxygen in your cells.  You were hooked up to an IV, wearing oxygen nasal prongs and an oxygen mask, both at 100%, keeping you alive.  You were unable to stand up, eat or speak without the oxygen attached.  It was about 1:00am and sleep was not possible with the pain you were in.  I was sitting across from you, just listening to you and willing you to breathe.  You began looking all around the hospital room.  You looked at the walls, the bed, the pile of goodies that you had collected on the window sill from your many visitors.  Your grandchildren had all been around you about 5 hours prior, all laughing and smiling with you.  You looked at me and you said, "Tricia, I am so fortunate.  Look at this room.  Look at this view.  I am so fortunate.  I am so very fortunate."  I said, "Yes, Dad.  You are so very fortunate.  I can see the CN tower!  This is an incredible view."  You smiled and nodded.  You were happy for those few minutes.  The final 24 hours you were so very happy with your family around you and so grateful for the care you were receiving at the hospital.  

The world needs more Michaels.   

I miss you so very, very much, Dad.

It was such a pleasure to have gotten to know you and share a huge portion of my life creating memories with you.   The birth of my 3 boys, you  were there when James was born, Cameron and then Connor. I will always miss you Grand Dad. I have so many memories of the times we spent together, when I was growing up. The times we went on your boat and you let me drive it, even if it was only for a minute. When you bought me that pedal boat and I could go out on the lake on my own. I remember the time I got to have my first drink with you, you wanted to buy one for me, I even tried your favourite kind of beer. I have so many memories the list is endless. I will miss you so much Grand Dad, I will do my best to let others know what a great man you were. I love you.

I am so proud to have been your son, you taught me so much about being a responsible person and to be accepting of all types of people which has helped make me into the person I am today.  I try to pass on the things I learnt from you to my sons and they are my pride and joys and make me proud every day.  I always think of you when I am trying to pick the best course of action and the best way to protect myself and my family.  I will miss you every day and know that the many people who's lives you have touched will miss you greatly. Always trying to make things fun and happy was one of your  mottos and I love how that has rubbed off on me over the years.  You will forever be cherished in my heart and I feel like a large chunk of my soul is empty right now.  Love you Dad.  You will be missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to Mike's family on his passing. We will miss him very much. We had a wonderful dinner with him in November at our home and then again in December where he cooked a wonderful meal for us. We had a such great time on both occasions! We also enjoyed a gift of his wonderful biscotti. Mike was a lovely man with a great sense of humour. We always admired the love he had for his beloved Marie....such an inspiration.
