My deepest condolences for Moses's friends, family, and loved ones. 

I have known Moses for almost 10 years. We met while I was working at a cafe and store, he would walk up Yonge St. towards his Buddhist temple then, always stopping for a coffee and a chat. I immensely enjoyed our conversations on various arts and culture, we would share books, music, theatre, and visual arts recommendations and events to name a few. In fact, one of my first theatre experiences was with Moses at his beloved Tarragon Theatre! It opened my eyes to the performing arts and I will always remember Moses fondly for sharing his love of theatre with me, amongst many other memories. 

Moses and I kept in touch over the years and when I eventually co-founded an arts studio, Paperhouse Studio, Moses was a staunch supporter—donating materials, books, and funds to support our high priority youth, encouraging them to continue making their art, expressing themselves to the fullest. Paperhouse is forever grateful and together as a community we mourn the loss of our friend and true supporter of the arts. 

Moses—I miss you, I hope you are at peace, and that we will one day meet again.

I remember you as my English teacher at Central Commerce Collegiate. Such a gentle soul who rode a bike to school and loved oranges. You will be missed, Mr. Wuggenig. Rest in eternal peace.

I am so sorry to hear the sad news.  Mr. Wuggenig was my English and library teacher at CCC.  He was a wonderful teacher and mentor.  I remember he was one of the first teachers to speak to the students as adults.  My condolences to the family

I knew Moses since he was a teenager as my brother Scott’s best friend. Moses was always a pleasure to be around and in many ways they were like brothers who could move from discussions on a wide range of subjects to jokes with ease. When Moses lived near Bloor and Yonge Scott dubbed him  the ‘Asquith chappie,’ an endearing title they both enjoyed immensely. Moses came to the cottage with my brother and his family a decade or so ago and I fondly remember him soaking in nature on the cottage deck, coffee in hand. Moses reconnected with me about six months ago and we spent about an hour on the phone catching up. It was a delight to hear from him, a moving reminder of my brothers special relationship with him. I will cherish that discussion, so characteristic of a sensitive, caring and precious friend. Moses touched many lives and will live on in their treasured memories of an exceptional man.  May his memory be a blessing to all who loved him. 

Moses was my English teacher at Central Commerce Collegiate. He was great at his craft, teaching to students like me. I loved how he was quick to share a laugh or his love for CFL football. He'd always greet me by saying, "Brother Allison, how the hell are ya!?" with a warm handshake. Just a few years ago, on a visit to Toronto, we met at Starbucks and had a great chat. I gave my former teacher an apple and he gave me a really good book. I am sad that he is no longer with us, I'll always remember him. Wishing you a peaceful journey, Mr. Wuggenig. Go Argos!

Moses (who I knew as Paul) was my late Uncle Scott Fleming's best friend from teenage years to Scott's passing in their 40s. He used to vacation with our family annually at Georgian Bay, and was often present at my Grandma's or Scott's house for birthdays and holiday meals. (Pictured above is my Uncle, my Dad, and Moses, on the beach). For a time he felt like part of the family, and seemed to fit right in and really be at home. As a young person I looked up to this well-read, dark-humoured friend of my Uncle's who taught me how to make homemade hummus and introduced me to Elvis Costello. I remember reading books they liked just to have a shot at keeping up with their references and inside jokes. Moses encouraged me to read fiction, drama, poetry, philosophy. I went on to study, and now teach, philosophy and literature in no small part, I'm sure, because of his early influence. I admired, and still admire, that he was principled, and spoke out in favour of social justice. He was ahead of his time in promoting principles of equity for everyone, but especially his own students and their access to education. He and my Uncle were both collectors (at that time), and both had a tendency to learn everything about the things that interested them. Moses had a patience and attention span that seems rare these days. I remember him taking long beach walks admiring nature. I remember hours spent on the deck at the cottage, with them drinking endless cups of black coffee and red wine, telling stories, talking about movies and music, and always laughing. Moses would have a glint in his eye and a wry smile on his face. When I picture him in my mind's eye he is talking about his passions and the forms of art that he loved and that brought him great joy. I know now that this joy was only one part of his life - but it was a part, an important part, and I'd like to hang on to that image. May the coffee have a kick, may the playlist make you smile, and may you rest in peace, old friend.

Diana, I was so saddened to hear the news of Moses…my memories of working with your brother for many years at TPL are how articulate and kind he was and filled with smiles. I no longer live in Ontario and wish I could be there tomorrow. Sending my love, Moses was a good soul. 

A kind man with a seemingly endless amount of compassion to others.He made you feel that he knew about your problems and wanted to help.Fantastic in conversation,he was educated man with opinions, a man of letters,many published.
He spoke often of his students,I know he was a positive influence on many.
I was proud to call him my friend,and though I miss him,I pray he is at peace....RIP amigo.

I am saddened to hear of Moses passing. He was such a sweet soul who lit up rooms of all who knew him. I will miss him 

I was very saddened to hear about Moses’ passing. He was my sister’s (Mika Damianos’) very good friend and I came to know him well over the years. 
He was a very warm and compassionate person, a good conversationalist and a gentle soul.
