It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Norma Kay Lee on June 27, at home and surrounded by family, following a brief battle with cancer.
Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter, the love of her life and best friend. She was the cherished daughter of the late Jack and Constance Leale, and the dear sister of Francis Simerson and the late Ken Leale.
She was the loving mother of Gerry; Ken and his late wife, Maureen; and Michele and her husband, Bruce. Proudly known as “Normie” to her grandchildren—Jessica, Jaimie (Mark Claessens), Mitchell, Ryan, Erin, Shannon (David Oram), and Meaghan—she treasured each of them deeply. She was also the devoted great-grandmother of Logan and Sawyer.
Born and raised in Toronto, Norma spent her entire life in the cherished Lee family home. A proud lifelong “Beacher,” she was deeply connected to her community and took part in many local organizations and activities throughout the years. Norma dedicated more than 20 years at St. William’s Catholic School, serving as an education secretary with commitment and care.
Following her retirement, she could often be found at hockey rinks, sports fields, and concert halls, enthusiastically cheering on her grandchildren in all their pursuits. Whether family, neighbours, or friends’ children, countless young people could always count on seeing their beloved “Normie” in the crowd, offering unwavering encouragement, heartfelt support, and one of her signature smiling waves. Through these countless acts of kindness and devotion, Norma touched the lives of many, and her warmth, generosity, and dedication to family and community will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is also lovingly remembered by her dear friends, Judy Robinson and Maureen Macdonald, whose lifelong friendship and enduring bond with Norma were truly a treasured part of her life.
Per Norma's wishes, the family will gather for a private burial to celebrate Norma’s life.
