I met Gord on a trip back home to Jamaica where he and Tara were to attend her Grandmother's funeral. We made plans to meet at Pier One in Mobay which we did. He was the coolest dad I had ever met and we quickly made friends.

Thanks to his encouragement, Tara and I became friends and I spent most of my week in Jamaica with her and Gord.

We shared some memorable moments and I mean, memorable moments!! That week was one of the most most special times of my life and would not have been if not for Gord.

He was a special man and thankfully, lives on in my memories.

Gordan was the big brother I never had. When I came to Canada in '76, he was the first to welcome me. He took me under his wings, introduced me to many of his friends - female. We used to go to the discos, and wow, was he a girl magnate.
I felt so welcomed by him and Ruby, it was as if I was already at home.
A true friend, a true brother. I miss you very much !!! God Bless you and love you as much as I do.

I didn't have many occasions to meet Uncle Gordon, however my memories of him are found.  If my memory serves me correctly I was the ring boy at his wedding.  May you rest in peace.

Dear Gord, 
I can't believe it's been a year since I brought you your favorites: ginger beer, Maynard's candies and plantain chips. You looked rejuvenated (compared to the week before) yet at peace with what was to follow... and we said our good-byes. You were such a gentle man with a kind heart. You loved the Caribbean and so looked forward to your annual jaunts down south. I hope that you are truly happy floating on the great blue sea of tranquility. Always in my thoughts and prayers.

Gord was very kind, talented, and interesting—a very colourful character. I have only good memories of him. Once, after a barbecue, I was unable to drive and he drove me home in a nighttime rainstorm. Here's the thing: he drove me home nearly blind. I don't know how he did it. He had problems with both eyes at that time, and it was impossible to see anything even with two good eyes. Incredible! I remember he talked fondly about his dog Jojo and how he used his first aid skills to revive her after she had some sort of heart failure. Again, incredible! I remember what a gracious host he was and once spending an afternoon with him and his lovely daughter Tara who was visiting. Gord was so unassuming, and never tried to be interesting, he just was. I am sorry I lost touch with him the last few years of his life. He was one of the good guys, and his passing is a great loss.

Always enjoyed your sense of humor. You are missed.

I worked with Gord at Sears in the Layout Department. Gord told the best stories and I always enjoyed hearing the latest one.

My Mom and Gordon worked together in Kingston, Jamaica and became great friends in spite of the age difference.  
Gordon left Jamaica to live in Canada and kept the friendship going.  He corresponded regularly with Mom and never left her out of his life.  On a visit Gordon made to Jamaica he went to see Mom.  Before he left she gave him my phone number and told him to contact me, which he did.  I remember I was having a party shortly after that and so I invited him.  From then on we became good friends and remained so over all these years.  Over the years, as our lives took different paths, we kept in touch and offered support to each other during various crises in our lives; like the passing of his Mom, illnesses, divorce, the passing of my Mom, etc.  It was with great sadness that I learned of Gordon's failing health and, eventually, of his passing.  I was saddened that that such a lovely person, such a talented person, such an artistic person, such a great Dad passed away at such a young age.  Gordon had much, much more living to do.  He will be greatly missed.   Gord, rest in peace!

Many memories. Theatre excursions and listening to Evita at your apartment with Bob. Knowing how you loved to act but found no opportunities here. You sharing your drawings, and the parties where there were promises of Gordie's pumpkin soup - and you gave me the recipe. At Sears the kindness of telling me I had a gigantic blob of white cat fur on my black pants, as a friend would, you said. Bringing me mangoes from Jamaica. Calling me sweetheart. Dancing - you sure knew how to dance. Being one of the buds in our marvelous Sears 'gang' at a time when it was all still fun. And seeing and talking to you when you were not well - still cheerful, not that I think you had to be, and I'm sure it wasn't easy. What a way to find out that you have gone on to a better place with no pain.  After meeting many years ago playing softball and having the honor to know you as my friend for many many years thereafter.  I will sadly miss you, your confidence and your friendship.  So long friend.

I met Gordon Thame several years ago and found that as an advertising designer and painter we had a lot in common. I remember him coming to my home and taking a few pictures of my garden. Years later in Canada I saw a few paintings that he had done from those photos. The paintings were the palm tree leaves from my yard and they were beautiful. He had an eye for color and his paintings were very vivid. His contribution to the arts is going to be missed dearly.

When I was about 13 years old, my sisters and I were asked to be bridesmaids at a friend's wedding.  Knowing we didn't have money to hire a make-up artist, Gordon, who was about 17 at the time volunteered to do our faces.  He did a superb job! We looked and felt like movie stars!  Thanks, Gordon.

The first time I met Gord was at his 50th Birthday. My friend Constantine invited me to meet his workmate/friend he spoke so much about. Gord was a great guy, he welcomed me, made me feel so comfortable at the party and introduced me to all his friends and family. I met Tara and David for the first time. It was a great night. After the party, Gord remained to be a friend. A warm and caring kindred spirit always full of joy and excitement. Throughout the years, I recall fond memories of his cooked food and elaborate dinners at his apartment, drinking Appleton Estate Rum with coke and champagne (not Cristal) but 'all good' just the same. He would share his stories of his triumphs, struggles and successes. He spoke of the changing landscape of Toronto and all the developments and good times. Tara and David were always the backdrop to all his stories. He gave me a great deal of insight on life and how to keep moving forward without looking back. He represented strength and perseverance. It's amazing how much tenacity Gord had by continuously keeping a smile on his face. During the last days, he told me a joke. I must admit, I have no idea what the joke was or if there was actually a punchline. (Tara, help me out here; you were there too. :) I know it had to do something with a nun and some lotion....or was it vaseline? )  Regardless, it made me laugh and gave me a burst of energy. I am so honoured to have known Gord as a role model and a testament of keeping your head held up high and to keep looking at the stars.

When I look up at the sky tonight, I will see the stars and amongst them… I will see GORD. Thanks for shining down on us. I remember, Je me souviens. Bwoy!!

I just wanted to say that when I think your brother, I think of his unsolicited kindness.
I remember a time when he was coming to Jamaica and he called my brother to let him know.
Neither of them could hear the conversation at all.
He arrived with a gift of a new portable telephone.

I worked with Gord at Sears Canada for many years.   I admired him for his professionalism, hardwork and dedication.  He was an expert at his job and gained a lot of respect from his co-workers. On that day our sourjourn began with a visit to the Kingston Parish church, paying homage to our forbears,Vera,Sandy and Grandma Myra.Our visit to Heathfield avenue as well as Kencott; homes which broughtfourth so many generations.I remember our visit to National Heroes Park, shortly after the death of The Honorable Michael Manley...yes Gordon we stood among prince's of our nation.
