He passed away peacefully at home on August 23rd, 2026, in Toronto.
Panagiotis was married to his wife Panagiota for 67 years till her passing last year. He is survived by their three children: Steve Maragos (Rita), Sonia Maragos, Jim Maragos (Helen); their eight grandchildren: Peter Maragos, Patricia Maragos (Chris), Dina Maragos, Alex Beik, Abraham Beik, Adam Beik, Peter James Maragos, and Kristina Maragos; their two great-grandchildren: Donell McKenzie and Kamari McKenzie.
Panagiotis was born in Loggastra, Sparti, Greece. He was predeceased by his parents Efstratios and Antonia Maragos, and his siblings: Evangelos, Evangelia, Andromahi, and Apostolis.
From a young age he was a hard worker, farming and tending to the olive groves. At the age of 18 he left his home in the village to train as a Police Officer in the island of Crete. He was then stationed in Thessaloniki and served for approximately 9 years as a well respected and trusted Officer. He later returned to his village to marry his beloved Panagiota. They soon had their three children and lived happily in their hometown.
They were purveyors serving their community with food and entertainment. In the early 60s, they had the first television brought to the town where people gathered to watch soccer games and movies. Their store was the hub of Loggastra and surrounding villages.
In 1973, they decided to embark on a new adventure moving to Canada. Their journey led them to owning a family restaurant in Shakespeare, Ontario where they continued serving their community. Eventually, they retired in Toronto and spent many years enjoying travels back and forth from their home in Canada to their home in Greece.
Panagiotis was the rock and strength for his beloved wife. He was a loyal husband, supportive father, caring grandfather, and dear friend to many. He was known for his hospitality, kindness and his impeccable sense of humour.
No words can explain how his absence leaves an aching void in our hearts, but his spirit lives on in the cherished memories we hold dear. We love you, Dad. May you and Mom be together in heaven.
