1935 - 2017
Patricia (Pat) passed away quietly and painlessly in Toronto, following several months of resistance to cancer. She was 82.
Patricia leaves a caring family of Ken (husband), Claire (daughter), James and Andrew (sons) and Stephanie (step-daughter), beloved grandsons and grand daughters, twin sister Helen of Hayling Island, U.K., brother Jim of Dorchester, U.K. and many relatives and friends both in England and the Beach (Toronto, Canada).
Born in London just prior to the Blitz, her family, headed by John Handley and Vera Bowes, moved successively to South Port, Lancashire, Derby and London.
Educated in Derby and London, Pat excelled in studies, particularly lawn tennis. She also worked at the BBC.
Shortly after marrying Ken in 1960, she moved to Canada, settling in Merritt, B.C. and adapted well to local culture and friendships.
In 1963, the family moved to Toronto, where she enjoyed instructing and playing tennis, water colour painting, arts and garden groups, making a wide circle of friends.
She traveled on several notable holidays with The Elder Treks and on visits to relatives in England.
Declining health forced a move from the Beach after 49 years at 250 Glen Manor to Bradgate, a retirement home in North Toronto in April 2016.
Lovingly remembered by friends and relatives, special memories are shared with Clair, daughter and devoted care-giver; Dr. Sydney Smart and the staff at Bradgate, St. Catherine's Society, the CCAC and their skilled team.
