Patrick Carlton Archer

Patrick was a hardworking, conscientious and responsible man who took his commitments to his family very seriously. He was a provider for his family and did so from a very young age. From his humble beginnings, he continued to work hard all his life and was an incredibly selfless person, always willing to give something to others.

He cared for and loved his family and particularly liked the sound of his daughters laughing, looking forward to early morning coffees, enjoying ice cream on a sunny day, spending time at Maracas Beach, listening to classical music as well as music from the 60s, local Calypso by Sparrow and the sound of birdsong in the garden.

Patrick worked well with his hands, he enjoyed fixing things, growing and caring for the garden and kept doing this well into his later years. He was a ‘True Trini’ at heart and loved the natural environment of the island and enjoyed learning more about its history and diverse cultures.

He valued his role as a teacher and mentor to his students. A touching message from a former student acknowledged the role Patrick played in helping this man ‘best reap the fruits of his own labour’. He continued to value education and learning and was a great problem solver.

Patrick was a faithful Roman Catholic, who held his connection with Jesus and Mother Mary in his heart. He watched mass daily online when he was no longer able to attend in person. He would collect prayers that he enjoyed and was always comforted and connected to his faith.

Patrick is greatly loved and will be missed every day.

Patrick Carlton Archer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Carlton Archer, aged 88, in Toronto on Sunday, March 19, 2023. May his soul rest in peace and may God hold him in light and love.

Originally from San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago, he is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline, and his two devoted daughters, Karen and Camille.

Patrick was the eldest son of Frederick and Clothilda Archer. He was a supportive brother to Monica, David (deceased), Maurice, Stephen, Annie, Eunice and Eileen (deceased).

He graduated from Presentation College, received his BSc. from the University of the West Indies and also held a diploma in management studies. Patrick started his career as a teacher of chemistry, mathematics and physics at Presentation College, positively influencing the lives of many students over the years. He then went on to have a successful managerial career in Trinidad’s building and manufacturing industries.

Patrick greatly loved the outdoors – birdwatching, gardening and most especially visiting Maracas beach. He had a green thumb and grew a modest collection of orchids and roses, his favourite flowers. An avid reader, he kept learning all his life with a special interest in computers, photography and health & wellbeing. He was a deeply private and spiritual man who was a faithful Roman Catholic.

He retired in Toronto and enjoyed the arts and culture of the city – music from around the world being a particular passion.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at North York General Hospital, the staff at WoodGreen Seniors Day Program at Broadview, and the Alzheimer Society Toronto - Music Project.

A Catholic funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Giffen-Mack & Trull Funeral Home chapel – 2570 Danforth Avenue, Toronto (Main & Danforth). A livestream of this service will also be available.
