It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Michael Purser, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and cherished friend, on Thursday, August 6th. Just as he wished, Paul passed away peacefully at home, in his bed, with his loving wife by his side.
Born in Ottawa on May 12, 1950, Paul was the son of the late Olive Ruth Purser and Charles Ralph Purser.
Fiercely patriotic, and the heart and soul of his family, Paul was a devoted husband and partner of nearly 50 years to Ginette Latendresse-Purser, an incredible father, proud grandfather, loving uncle, and loyal friend and mentor to many.
Paul showed remarkable resilience throughout his battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Despite the challenges of his illness, he maintained his positive spirit and never allowed his circumstances to diminish his love of life or the people around him.
He had a vibrant personality and a passion for fine food, Bordeaux wines, and fine gin. Paul will be mostly remembered as a teller of stories, for his unconditional love, generosity and fierce devotion to those he cared for. His friendships, some spanning childhood and others formed throughout his career and beyond, were deeply cherished.
Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ginette; his children, Tasha Purser Ha (Ken) and Jordan (Jojo) Lui; and his beloved grandson, HanJoon Michael Ha. He is also survived by his sister, Valory McDougall (Don); sister-in-law, Lise Latendresse (Yves); brother-in-law, Paul Latendresse (Diane); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Paul leaves behind an aching void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Yet, amid our grief, we find comfort in the countless memories of his laughter, kindness, generosity, and of course, his many stories.
The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care and compassion Paul received over the years from Dr. Christopher Walsh at Michael Garron Hospital, and in recent months from the Temmy Latner Palliative Care Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Celerius, Nurses Simcha and Meghan, and the many personal support workers who cared for Paul with extraordinary compassion during his final months, weeks, and days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation.
