Robert Joseph “Bob” Cook departed this existence on May 11, 2023, in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Bob served his country as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force for thirty-eight years, rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He participated in missions on three continents including the UN Peacekeeping Mission to Yemen, the NORAD implementation in the high Arctic, and a five-and-a-half year stint with NATO in West Germany. He was the proud recipient of the Canadian Confederation Medal for distinguished service in 1967. Bob loved walking in the outdoors and conversing with the people he met on his rambles. He enjoyed curling, darts, reading history and current events, and was the consummate euchre player. And not too shabby at bridge and poker, either.
A devoted and caring husband, Bob nursed both of his wives through terminal illnesses. Doreen Odessa Cook was the mother of his children and succumbed to cancer, able to remain at home because of his ministrations. Doris Cook stayed at home until her very last days due to the excellent care he provided.
Kind, loving, and encouraging as a father, Bob will be sorely missed by his children, Donna-Marie Cook (Chevery QC and Toronto), Carol-Ann Cook (Toronto) and Robert Cook (wife Irene) of Sudbury. He was a proud Grampie to Lee Grey (wife Kim), Ryan Grey (wife Victoria), Brandon Cook, and Brittany Caufield-Cook (husband Dyson). He very much enjoyed the company of his great grandchildren Lee Grey, Samantha Grey, and Cavan Grey.
Bob was the son of Catherine and Robert Cook of Sudbury. He is survived by his siblings Jimmy Cook (wife Isabelle) of Sudbury, Ronnie Cook (wife Demi) of Foxboro, and Emily Vinski (husband Tommy, deceased). His siblings John Cook, Frances Giroux, Elizabeth Cook, Christopher Cook, and Edith Cook predeceased him.
The world has lost a genuinely good man but he is at rest now.
