A cherished soul has departed from this Earth, and it is with deep love and fond remembrance that we celebrate the life of Roger Howat Moores. Roger was born on December 12, 1946, in Blackpool, England, and passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 79, following a courageous battle with pneumonia.
Roger is lovingly remembered by his beloved children, Alexis Moores (Austin Pool) and Trevor Moores (Nisha Moores); his adored grandchildren, Olivia and Luna; and his former wife, Jackie Gray (Phil Yanneff). He was predeceased by his parents, Sylvia and Les Moores.
Born in England, Roger immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1952. He later attended the University of Toronto, where he studied teaching. A lifelong golfer, Roger was a proud member of the Professional Golfers Association and found great joy in both playing and teaching the game he loved.
An enthusiastic athlete, Roger enjoyed many years playing golf and also rugby with The Nomads. His son fondly recalls countless rounds of golf and lessons shared with his father, often playfully swapping clubs between games. Roger was also a devoted lifelong learner with a deep love of reading and philosophy, enjoying many deep conversations on psychology and mindfulness with his daughter-in-law at their regular family dinners. His youngest granddaughter will cherish memories of grandpa reading her favourite stories.
Roger was a deeply encouraging father, who championed his daughter to pursue her artistic talents with confidence, creativity, and courage, always reminding her to trust her instincts and follow her passions. Music was another of Roger’s great passions, with Jimi Hendrix holding a special place in his heart. He had many meaningful lifelong friendships and was known in his younger years for his lively spirit and love of celebration, once passionately reciting a Robbie Burns poem at a Halloween party! Roger formed dear friendships across England and Australia and held particularly fond memories of his time spent in Cornwall, England. He had a special place in his heart for New Zealand and often spoke of his dream of retiring to a quiet stone estate among rolling fields and grazing sheep.
Roger’s quick wit, quirky sense of humor, and endearing eccentricity defined him. Confident and unapologetically himself, he proudly marched to the beat of his own drum. A true fighter with remarkable strength of spirit, Roger overcame cancer more than twenty years ago. His steady presence, resilience, and individuality will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A visitation service will be held on February 1st from 11am-1pm at Giffen-Mack and Trull Funeral Home. 2570 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, ON.
Flowers are welcome, as are donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate palliative care team at Michael Garron Hospital.
