Eulogy from the Funeral Mass;

For those of you that don’t know me – I am Francesca, Rosanna Maneli’s youngest daughter and this is my older sister Jenette. On behalf of the Maneli family: my father Vittorio, my sister Rosanna and my brother Vito, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has shared their love and support with us over these last few days. We also wanted to thank everyone who made an effort to go and visit our mother and give her their love and support over the last few years. We know she greatly appreciated the warm wishes she received from family, friends and neighbours. Everyone who knew our mom knew how special she was. She was so loved by all of us – as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, neighbour and friend. Myself being the youngest child by many years, I had the least amount of time with my mom but I felt like I received the bulk of her attention growing up because I was the “baby” as she often referred to me as. She was a tremendous role model to all 4 of us kids and had such a big impact on our lives that we attribute much of who we are today to her influence. We all learned 3 core life lessons directly from our mom. In reality, we learned more than 3 but in the interest of time have limited it to 3. 1. Independence – not just as a woman (though she was the most independent woman I know) but as a person. Physical independence, mental independence, emotional and financial independence were all important. Our mom was fiercely independent right to the end, perhaps too much so when she needed help but would often refuse. Sometimes independence and stubbornness can appear muddled – I think she learned that lesson from her own mother, our grandmother Annunziata! 2. The importance of family – all family not just your immediate core but extended family as well. Parents – she loved and cared for my grandparents till their last days; Siblings – they are your tie to the past and allies in life once parents are gone, – our mom’s sister Elizabeth was so involved and helped so much during the last few years. On behalf of all of us thank you Zia for everything you did, mom loved you so very much. 3. The power of unconditional love – I think you don’t quite understand what unconditional love truly is until you become a parent and the reality is that some people are better at it than others - and she was the very BEST at it! In her eyes, her children were always stars no matter what, and her grandchildren were EVEN brighter stars that she was so very proud of - each and every one. She taught me about the type of mother I strive to be and the type of grandmother I hope to one day be. We will all miss you so very much mom and we know that you are at peace now, and will be watching over all of us from heaven.
