From a young age, Roy showed a natural connection to the arts, first as an award-winning accordion player, and later through dance, theatre, film, voice-over work, and martial arts choreography, including work on The Big Hit, where he choreographed the Wooden Dummy sequence and coached Mark Wahlberg for the scene. His interest in movement led him to study Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo before continuing into the Dance program at Ryerson Polytechnical University.
Roy’s martial arts journey began in his youth with Tang Soo Do. Over the years, he explored Hapkido, Wushu, Kali, Boxing, and other disciplines, but his true love was Wing Chun Kung Fu, which he taught for over 35 years. He later opened his own martial arts school on the Danforth in Toronto, now known as Centreline Kung Fu Hall. To many, he was more than an instructor. He was a mentor, guide, and friend.
Roy was a lifelong student of human potential. He had a way of helping people see more in themselves. He encouraged others, supported their goals, and helped them believe in what they were capable of.
Roy was predeceased by his father, Norberto Flores Domingues. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Gracinda Domingues, his siblings, Susana, Norberto, and Jenny Domingues, his nephews and neice, Grayson, Evan, and Avery Domingues, and by the many students, grandstudents, friends, and extended family members whose lives he touched.
