June 2, 1951 – May 13, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Cherun on May 12, 2026, at the age of 74. Shirley was a beautiful soul inside and out—a deeply caring woman whose warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit left a lasting mark on everyone who truly knew her.
For over 44 years, Shirley made her home in Scarborough, Ontario, creating a stable, loving, and welcoming sanctuary where she raised her family. She was a well-respected and dedicated, long-time employee of Colgate-Palmolive for 31 + years, where she was known for her hard work and the genuine friendships she formed before the company's downsizing. Shirley also volunteered at Chester Village. Where she went on to win the Volunteer of the Year award for her work with seniors.
In her later years, Shirley faced subsequent health challenges, including cancer, with immense courage and a quiet strength. She battled and conquered this, among many other challenges, she faced throughout her health journey.
Shirley was a woman who found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a profound love for music, and anyone who knew her knew she was a passionate fan of Elvis Presley, whose songs brought a smile to her face throughout her life.
Above all else, Shirley lived for her family. Her absolute greatest joy and the light of her life was her daughter, April. The bond between Shirley and April was extraordinary—they were truly thicker than thieves and the absolute best of friends. Making it an honour for April to devote her life to being her caregiver through every health battle from the beginning to the end. Making sure Shirley was never alone and as comfortable as possible throughout her struggles with illness. Their unbreakable closeness was the foundation of Shirley’s world, and that love will endure forever.
Shirley is also survived by her husband, Allen Cherun.
Shirley is reunited in peace with her beloved mother, Mary LeBlanc, with whom she shared a profoundly close and cherished relationship, as well as her father, Napoleon Leblanc. She was also predeceased by her siblings Florence Gallant, Jack Leblanc, Joan Desveaux, Wallace Leblanc, and Roy White.
Her memory and legacy of love will be forever cherished by her surviving family, her siblings Donny Leblanc, Patsy McAskill & Puppin Leblanc, as well as her many nieces and nephews, extended family, devoted neighbours, and friends. She was adored by everyone she ever met. And this was because after meeting Shirley, you were left feeling loved and unconditionally accepted in a way that is rare to find in this world, which made her unforgettable but most of all irreplaceable.
