Passed away peacefully at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, with loved ones at her side. For nearly a year she battled cancer without losing hope or her well-known high spirits. Taken from us much too young, she will be terribly missed by her family and wide circle of friends. Survived by her husband Brian Koop, her parents John and Dawn, her siblings John, Helen and Janice, her nephew Abe and nieces Hazel, Jennifer, Nainsi and Helena. She was not blessed with children, but she loved her nieces and nephew as if they were her own. Siobhan was born in Kitchener, Ontario only months after her parents arrived in Canada. Soon they returned to Manchester, England and then to Tullow, County Carlow, Ireland, where her family are still based. As a young woman she returned to Canada to make a life and career in Kitchener and then Toronto. She built a successful business career at Manulife Financial, becoming a respected manager. Her passion for Irish people and culture led to long-lasting friendships with fellow expatriates, frequent return trips to Ireland and hosting family visitors in Canada. She was actively involved in Irish theatre for many years, especially the Toronto Irish Players. She married Brian in 2003 and shared his interest in travel and cultural and sporting events. Known for strong-mindedness, loyalty, sincere caring for others and a robust vitality that she expressed physically in dance, running and in outdoor activities, and socially with her love of good times shared with friends. A funeral service will be held at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street (South of Wellesley) on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 10 a.m., followed by a private cremation. In future, a memorial service and burial will take place in Ireland. Siobhan was committed to social justice and helping the less fortunate, so in lieu of flowers please donate to Amnesty International or an ovarian cancer charity of your choice.
