Sr. Mary Elizabeth Laverty Cj

Laverty, Sister Mary CJ, died peacefully, at Presentation Manor on June 11, 2026. Sister Mary was in the 107th year of her life and 87th year as a member of the Congregation of Jesus (Loretto Sisters). She was predeceased by her parents, Peter Laverty and Bridget Hourigan; her brothers Msgr. Fergus, Fr. Bernard, Leonard (Grace), John, and Wilfred (Theresa); niece, Bernardine Nicholson; and nephew-in-law, Hans Caro. She is survived by her nephew, Bernard (Linda); her niece, Lois Garland; her nephew-in-law, Ron Nicholson; as well as grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was very devoted to her family and found opportunities to help them by regular trips home to Stratford, especially in their later years.

Mary spent many years teaching in elementary schools in Ontario, and then served as treasurer in several local Loretto community houses. In 2018, she moved to Presentation Manor.

She was greatly loved for her quick wit and direct manner of speaking. She was always interested in other sisters, their families, and friends, and willingly prayed for any need asked of her.

Visitation at Presentation Manor Chapel, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough, on June 22, 2026, at 9:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
