

Stanley went to St. Mary’s School and at a young age, joined the bugle band. He stayed in the band until the age of eighteen, when he married June Murphy. They had three children, Debra Cooney (Rob), Karen Prophet (Randy) and Tracy Babiarz. He had nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Lori Brown (Alan), Ryan Cooney and Steven Cooney (Jess Oud); Scott, Cory and Brock Prophet; Victoria (Jonathan Bega), Alexandra (Shane Fraser) and Connor Moffatt; Jacob, Michael & Kaitlyn Runciman and William and Aria Brown. Predeceased were his sisters, Wanda Uricchio and Irene Russell. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Wilder and his brother Eddie (Linda, predeceased). He had two nieces, Jodi Wagner (Dave) and Valerie Busch (John) and two nephews, Rick and Fran and many great nieces and nephews.
Stan loved drum and bugle corps. After St. Mary’s Band, he was with Columbus, Jolly Jesters, Jesters and Canadian Commanders. His last competitive year was 1964. After a long layoff he joined Toronto Signals Band in 1993 and in 1994 helped to form the DCAT Chorus (Drum Corps Alumni Toronto).In his teen years, he was an amateur boxer. He worked at Toronto Star at age 16 as a truck hopper. He aged out at 18. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce became his employer at the corner of Bay and King Streets.
Up until 1974 he worked for Trust companies and a stockbroker. He took time out to complete requirements to earn the AACI designation.
He then worked for Ministry of Government Services until 1987 when he joined the City of North York, which became City of Toronto. He retired in 1999 and ended his career at Queen and Bay Streets, a few blocks north from his first place of employment.
Visitation will be held at Giffen-Mack & Trull Funeral Home, located at 2570 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON, M4C1L3, Canada. The visitation is scheduled for March 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
